Knowledge Management at Parsley Health
SPRING 2019 – RESEARCH, STRATEGY, DESIGN
THE PROBLEM
The rapid growth of the Parsley Health team, almost triple the size over a year, created an important and urgent need for organizational strategy. The team was having difficulties in finding and sharing information; spending valuable time inefficiently searching for what they need to do work, which left little time to do actual work. This caused problems in communications, collaborations, and the management of teams and projects.
THE METHOD
I led a project in research and strategy to restructure and design effective knowledge management for the whole company. I designed the research framework, and led user research to identify user and business needs. I surveyed the majority of the company, and interviewed representative team members from all across the company ecosystem.
THE INSIGHT
First, I created an affinity board from all the user research to group the data into mega themes and identify patterns.
Then, I analyzed the data in the Jobs-to-be-Done framework. This led me to identify the top business and user needs and to create a pool of solutions.
Finally, I partnered with Operations to rank the top solutions in order of impact, based on existing solution rating and the identified needs.
THE SOLUTION
To solve the most user and business problems, we implemented a knowledge management platform, Notion, creating an intranet for the Parsley Health team, named ‘Greenhouse’.
I designed the information architecture for the platform based on user needs and impact.
THE OUTCOME
There was immediate and increasing use of the platform by all teams, allowing the team to find and share information not only with their teams, but across the whole company. The platform greatly improved the sharing and finding of knowledge, increased visibility into the business, empowered employees, and strengthened company culture.
